This document applies to HP Envy k notebook computers. Before you begin Have a Phillips head screwdriver, tweezers or needle-nose pliers, and a nonmetallic stick or similar prying tool. Turn off the computer. Disconnect the Ethernet or modem cable. Disconnect the power cord. Transfer the computer to a clear, flat, stable work surface over a non-carpeted floor. HP strongly recommends the use of an anti-static wrist strap and a conductive foam pad when working on the computer.
Do not remove a component from its protective packaging until you are ready to install it. To reduce the chance of ESD damage, work over a non-carpeted floor, use a static dissipative work surface such as a conductive foam padand wear an ESD wrist strap connected to a grounded surface.
Servicing internal components increases the risk of damaging the computer which might not be covered under warranty. Understand the risk and refer to the product's warranty before attempting to service the computer. Video overview View the following video before using the steps in this article.

If installing a new top cover, remove the power button board, the touchpad board, and the finger reader board from the old top cover.I need more storage. Can I add a 1TB Sata hard drive to this machine? Is it a 17t-bw 4 zeros? Normally yes, your machine should have at least one spare 2. I was concerned about an additional SSD not working because HP's configurator does not allow a 1G HDD with a G SSD - customer service said it was an "untested" configuration and I've seen some listings in forums indicating that some people have encountered mysterious incompatibility issues by adding additional storage and I'm trying to avoid buying a piece of hardware and having to try to return it if it doesn't work.
Naturally, you could replace the M2 drive with a larger capacity drive no limit in capacity however if you are looking only for storage the better idea is a 2. However, the problem is that it is nearly impossible to find the hard drive cable and bracket you would need to install a 2.
It is not available in HP parts store nor on the Web. It will probably become available sooner or later. I bought the same config. Both official parts. Does not work at all. Bios will not detect the drive. It Powers up just fine and spins but no partition manager can see it or edit it. I don't feel like taking my computer apart again.
I scratched the back up a good bit due to the pesky pentalobe screws and me being too cheap to buy a 5 torx driver. It seems HP just doesn't want you to use this config. Bios has no options concerning a 2nd HDD, I'm at a loss. When you installed the drive, did you go into Disk Management and initialize the drive? I tried disk MGMT. Booted from a few different Linux distros. The drive powers on just fine, but nothing sees it sadly.
I'll pop it in anothet laptop and see if I can detect it and if so format it. But upon opening the laptop, there's no HDD cable or rubber mount.
So with the 'official' cable either being impossible to find in stock or priced into the stratosphere, I counted the number of pins on the HDD connector on the motherboard it has 12and scoured the interwebs for other HP laptop HDD cables that also had 12 pins. Most had just 10, but I found one with 12, and took a chance on it for less than 15 us clams. I also ordered a rubber sleeve for another HP laptop modelbut it hasn't arrived yet, so for now I created a cradle made with some folded-over Gaff tape Cloth tape with Rubber Adhesive to hold the hdd in place securely and provide some shock resistance too.
Again, this is temporary until the sleeve arrives in a couple of days In this case, probably the x 15" and your 17t machine use same part. Didn't find what you were looking for? Ask the community.
